Today I climbed down all these steps, and then another load, about 70 in all (and of course had to climb back up again, a much slower journey), to reach the tiny chapel cut out of the rock in the 12th century that is now known as Our Lady of the Grotto. The chapel is just down the road from our hotel in Mellieha, Malta and today we had a little exploration of the immediate area.
The spring water in the grotto is believed to have healing powers and children especially are prayed for here, the wall is covered with votive offerings, messages, photographs, small items of clothing, toys. It is a very calm place and still in constant use, worth that climb.
Today has been mainly about relaxation. We have a very good room at our hotel, this is the view from our hot tub on our balcony! Tomorrow is likely to be about relaxation too :-)
i bet you need a restful vacation after your worldwind tour in japan.
ReplyDeleteWow that's a beautiful view, and you can relax in the hot tub after your walk...
ReplyDeleteLovely view from a bath tub...Looks a beautiful summer in Malta.
ReplyDeleteIt must be lovely to have A Hot Tub with a View on the balcony and R&R there after those steep steps. Enjoy every minute of Malta.
ReplyDeleteMalta looks wonderful, Lis.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a hot tub on the balcony, I would be there all the time! A bit like an onsen, perhaps?
