This weekend we will all be celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in one way or another. I just wanted to share this commemorative stone from the Ministry of Gozo building which used to be a hospital. I noticed it especially as the Queen was then a princess and held the title Duchess of Edinburgh. She and the Duke lived for some periods of time in the
Villa Gwardamangia on Malta when they were first married and he was a Naval officer.
Seems such a long time ago. She was crowned the year I was born.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting, I never knew that was her title back then. The royal couple did a tour through New Zealand in 1953 (when I was 8 years old) and all the children from my school lined up by the road and waved our little flags as they drove past.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend is Queen's Birthday Weekend down here in New ZEaland, with a public holiday on Monday. Don't know if this is celebrated at the same time or a different time in England?
