It's been a while since I've posted and today I have a little quiz for you. I've been to a local antique and collectables fair and come home with two little purchases. The first is self explanatory:
and a bargain at 50p.
The other is rather interesting and the stallholder was able to tell me all about it but what do you think it is? It's about nine inches long and an inch wide if that helps:
Hoping you're having a relaxing Sunday and spared a few moments to remember the fallen this morning.
I wonder if it's a weaving shuttle?
ReplyDeletefor Tatting
ReplyDeleteIs there a prize?
ReplyDeleteI think it is a shuttle for knotting/mending fish nets.
yes...it is definitely a netting shuttle. i have one someplace in my stash.
ReplyDeletePretty findings, I remember seeing one of those shuttles sometimes ago but wouldn't have been able to place it without your clever readers.
ReplyDeleteFish net (or snowshoe) repair was my first thought
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a shuttle, depending on the actual size for loom or tapestry weaving - the latter is where you have an upright frame, put the cartoon [picture] behind of the end result, and weave the small areas - hence the need for a smaller shuttle.
ReplyDeleteGreat to find the little pin tin - instead of the plastic one!
Yep I thought a shuttle too.Maybe for fishnetmending as it doesn't really look the same as the ones I have used in weaving.
ReplyDeleteI have a few of these shuttles made of old ivory. I got them from zz. My mother used to make them out of bamboo for netting stitches - hugs Nat
ReplyDeleteI think it is a weaving shuttle too for weaving yarn under and over.
ReplyDeleteglad to see you back, Lis. I have one of those somewhere, not nearly as handsome as yours. plastic I think, still used here on the coast for mending nets.
ReplyDeleteHi Lis,
ReplyDeleteThe exact ones here are made for making and repairing fishing nets and for making straw zig-zags for cocoons.
